Happy 2021! Ready for a change? I am!

COVID 19 has forced dramatic changes for everybody. Small businesses closed, the education industry flipped upside down, families forever changed. Even though my story fits in the first of those, I feel incredibly lucky as 2021 begins. When the lockdowns began in March, patient visits at my urgent care shut off like a light switch. They never went to zero, but it’s dramatic when you go from seeing 30 people one day and 4 the next. Visits crept back up, but only to the teens. That sounds like it should be plenty, but with insurance reimbursements getting squeezed and regulation increasing overhead over the years, it barely keeps the lights on. In spite of taking no salary for several months, I could no longer sustain the practice, and had to make the difficult decision to close in October.

So why do I feel lucky? First of all, I and my family took action early on to maintain our health and wellness, and everyone is doing well. Second, because closing the urgent care has freed me to pursue another path. Over the years I have come to realize the importance of focusing on wellness and prevention, rather than reaction to illness. The pandemic particularly opened my eyes to how dependent I was on the sick care system. Part of the slowdown was fear-based, people not seeking care, but I also think the measures everyone was taking reduced transmission of the usual cold viruses, if not COVID 19. I didn’t like that realization about myself, so even before COVID I started developing a plan to maintain the urgent care, while I went on to pursue a wellness practice. But the security of that system continuing to feed and clothe my family held me back. Then the Pandemic hit, freeing me to make a bold change.

There is much more to discuss about Wellness, the “Health” Care System, the Direct Care Model and the Meaning of Life, and I will get to all of that in the coming months and years. But for now, a question for you. Are you ready to make a bold change? To live your healthiest and best Life? I am, and I want you to join me! I have dedicated my life to learning, and I want to share with you.

To Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Healthiness,

Greg
